Commercial Solar Canopies

Solar Canopies Create Value for Energy Assets and Commercial Properties

Solar canopies transform parking areas into productive energy-generating assets while providing practical benefits for vehicles, occupants, and facilities.
For IPPs, energy asset owners and managers, commercial property owners, and large organizations, canopy projects can support project economics, onsite energy generation, long-term asset value, and sustainability objectives.

Core Development Group provides Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services for commercial solar canopy projects, with each engagement tailored to the project’s scope and site requirements.

A commercial solar carport canopy has steel beams or posts that make a frame. The frame is topped with solar panels to form a canopy or roof.

We custom-design the canopy according to each property’s unique location and size.

KEY CONSIDERATIONS INFLUENCING THE DESIGN OF A SOLAR CANOPY INCLUDE...

EXPOSURE & LOCATION

Solar canopies can be located on ground-level parking areas or installed at the top level of multi-level parking garages.

SIZE OF INSTALLATION & ENERGY PRODUCTION CAPACITY

Commercial solar canopy design depends upon parking lot size and energy goals. A
minimum of 60 parking spaces is recommended for a commercial solar canopy.
This size can cost-effectively produce 500,000 kWh annually.

CLEARANCE HEIGHT

Typically, solar canopies are 14 feet tall, allowing various vehicles to pass underneath
the canopy. However, higher or lower solar canopies can accommodate shorter or
taller vehicles, buses, vans or trucks.

SLOPE & WATER DRAINAGE

An efficient solar canopy design will integrate downspouts or other water
management systems to direct water away from the parking area, toward
appropriate drainage.

Experience Delivering Commercial Solar Canopies

With more than a decade of commercial and industrial solar experience, our team advances large solar canopy projects through disciplined EPC execution focused on project requirements, schedules, and accountability. We work with IPPs, energy asset owners/managers, and commercial property owners to deliver solar canopy projects from structural and electrical planning through permitting, interconnection, construction, and project closeout.
